For 20 plus years, Virginia Economic Bridge, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has promoted the economic vitality and external competitiveness of the Commonwealth through business, industry and educational partnerships. Our strength is our partnerships, our alliances and our contacts. We currently manage six signature programs: Virginia’s Business Pipeline; Virginia Community Analysis, Research and Development (VaCARD); Virginia’s Linked Workforce Initiative; SWVA Online - Virginia’s Great Southwest!; and Return to Roots – Southwest and Southern Virginia and provide management support for One Care of SWVA – A Consortium of 23 Substance Abuse Coalitions.

With the support of our 2010 donors, we were able to move into our new facility, open Virginia’s TeleWorkforce Connections and Training Center, develop the framework for SWVA’s Domestic Sourcing Initiative as well as kick off our Virginia Technology Student Association partnership and VEB IT-PRIME (Information Technology - Professional Related Intern/Mentor Experience) internship program both specifically designed to introduce today’s high school students to tomorrow’s rural based IT job opportunities! In addition, each dollar donated was also matched by private sector support! To our 2010 donors, we thank you!

Each of these efforts builds on the legacy that started in 1989, when an assembly of Virginia’s leaders, from the public and private sectors, developed a network to facilitate resource sharing between Northern and Southwest Virginia. The result was the Virginia Economic Bridge Initiative. The Initiative began holding forums between the two regions and its various leaders. Strategic alliances were formed; ideas were exchanged. Soon a bridge began to form across Virginia.

The momentum from the Virginia Economic Bridge Initiative provided the foundation for many successes, and in 1995, Virginia Economic Bridge was awarded 501(c)(3) status. Since, active involvement by community leaders from the public and private sectors has allowed Virginia Economic Bridge to further its outreach for more direct contributions in order to increase regional economic growth.

Over the years Virginia Economic Bridge has developed, implemented and continues to support programs such as: the Southwestern and Western Virginia Public Education Consortiums, the Virginia Economic Bridge Entrepreneurship Award, the Southwest Virginia GIS-based Telecommunications Study/Mapping Project, the New River/Mt. Rogers Regional Community Audit and the Southwest Virginia Economic Development Commission. As a result of Virginia Economic Bridge’s support, the Western and Southwestern Virginia Public Education Consortiums are now autonomous non-profit organizations.

Through programs such as Virginia’s Business Pipeline, Virginia’s Linked Workforce Initiative and Showcase, Virginia’s Teleworkforce Connections and Training Center, Return to Roots and the VaCARD Program and SWVA Online, Virginia Economic Bridge is a resource for the Commonwealth!
